Not a writer’s paradise

The glamorous writing locales inhabited by this author include a rather cramped home office, the passenger seat of our car, and the plastic chairs of my son’s club canteen.

But when the sun makes its reappearance, I do like to sit on our balcony surrounded by “Sommerflieder” (Buddleia), allowing the colours and the butterflies to inspire with their beauty, the bees to inspire with their working discipline.

Perhaps not this year.

A weekend spring clean led me to think of one of Jane Austen’s famous quotes from a letter to her sister, Cassandra:

“I will not say that your mulberry-trees are dead, but I am afraid they are not alive.”
